35.2x Extra Optical Zoom

The DMC-FZ35's 18x optical zoom combines with the large, 1/2.33" diagonal 12.1-megapixel CCD to give you enormous expressive power. The Extra Optical Zoom, which minimizes the image degradation that normally occurs with digital zooming, gives you up to 35.2x power in 3-megapixel photos, and up to 28.1x power in 5-megapixel photos.

POWER O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer)

Especially important for a high zoom camera, Panasonic's advanced POWER O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) enhances the camera's telephoto zoom capabilities, helping to deliver sharp, vivid images even when taking handheld telephoto shots or shooting in low light. This feature uses motion sensors, which detects even slight hand movement and integrally links the lens control to the motion of the camera to reduce jitter. Unlike digital image stabilization systems, this optical system provides precise compensation with no degradation in image quality. POWER O.I.S. is automatically turned on in the IA Mode and can be turned on or off in the P/A/S/M Mode or some Scene Modes.

POWER O.I.S. nearly doubles the hand-shake correction power of conventional MEGA O.I.S. Now, in addition to Motion JPEG images, the DMC-FZ35 can record high-definition motion picture in AVCHD Lite. AVCHD (Advanced Video Codec High Definition) is a practical format exclusively developed for recording High Definition motion pictures. AVCHD Lite is a subset of the AVCHD format for digital cameras with HD video recording of 720P. Compared to the Motion JPEG which records full information of every frame to make a sequence of still images, the AVCHD Lite records motion images with high-efficient compression optimized exclusively for motion picture recording. As a result, stunningly beautiful movie even in High Definition can be recorded with almost doubling the recording time in HD quality compared with the conventional Motion JPEG format. The FZ35 also features Dolby® Digital Stereo Creator to record high quality audio, so you can match the beautiful motion images with outstanding stereo sound.

Motion image recording can be started by pressing a dedicated button on the camera's back panel -- an extremely quick, convenient way to start motion image recording. Most of the camera's settings will be carried over when switched to motion picture recording. The powerful 18x optical zoom is available in movie recording, too. A Wind Cut function is also available to block out most of the noise from background wind. The FZ35 also provides a Color mode and carries over 19 different Scene modes from photo scene modes in movie recording. 2.7-inch High-Resolution Intelligent LCD and Electronic Viewfinder

The Lumix DMC-FZ35 boasts a larger 2.7-inch Intelligent LCD with a full 230,000 pixels resolution to offer even more comfortable viewing while both monitoring shots and playing back the results. The camera detects the light condition and automatically boosts the LCD backlighting by 40% when shooting outdoors in bright sunshine, and boosts signals by pixel-mixed readout method when shooting under low-lit situation to secure a clear image in any circumstances. The High Angle mode, which can be accessed quickly and easily via a dedicated button, makes the LCD screen extremely easy to view when the camera is held high, such as to shoot over a crowd. Ultra High-Speed AF

The ultra high-speed AF, which approaches the level of system cameras, is about twice as fast as Panasonic's previous AF systems*. It has a maximum speed of approx. 0.29 second at the wide-angle setting and approx. 0.31 second at the telephoto setting. It includes numerous re-engineering enhancements, including a higher-speed actuator, optimized algorithms and parallel software processing. 1/2.33" 12.1 Megapixel CCD With Primary Color Filter

The 12.1 mega-pixel CCD (charged coupled device) converts optical data into digital information. It lets you capture crisp, clear images in high resolution, and helps bring out a full range of expressive color and detail. The DMC-FZ35's Primary Color Filter uses the primary colors (red, green and blue) to ensure the correct extraction of color information from the CCD in order to create vivid, rich color images.

Venus Engine HD LSI

The high-speed, high-performance Venus Engine HD has been re-engineered to support the recording of beautiful, high-definition motion images in AVCHD Lite. With its twin CPUs, Venus Engine HD boasts approximately 2.4x processing speed, greatly improving the speed of camera operations. This high performance LSI elevates the artificial intelligence of the camera by introducing new circuitry making it possible to "recognize" human faces individually. It also supports high definition output through HDMI.

Luminance noise and chromatic noise are reduced separately in a Panasonic's advanced noise reduction system. In addition, the Venus Engine HD enhances this detection by effectively reducing highly noticeable low-frequency chromatic noise in advance, while delicately applying noise reduction (NR) processing to detailed areas to prevent the color bleeding that often happens when NR is used. As a result, beautiful images with minimal noise can be reproduced all the way up to ISO 1600 high sensitivity at full resolution while color noise is less noticeable in shadows and other dark areas even when shooting with low sensitivity.

The DMC-FZ35 slashes the release time lag to around 0.007 second* minimum. This makes DMC-FZ35 an extremely quick, responsive camera. It lets you capture images comfortably even at a moment's notice and is a pleasure to use. Despite its outstanding performance, the high performance engine is also more energy efficient compared with the conventional Venus Engine IV, extending the battery life up to 470 shots (CIPA) per a single charge.

Intelligent Auto Mode Helps Prevent Mis-Shots

Panasonic's iA (Intelligent Auto) mode is a combination of functions that makes it easy for anyone to take beautiful photos. In iA mode the camera does all the work, activating Mega O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer), Intelligent ISO Control, Intelligent Scene Selector, Face Detection, and Intelligent Exposure. This leaves the user free to simply compose the shot and press the shutter button, with the assurance that the image will be clear, beautiful and properly exposed. This mode is now further advanced with the inclusion of further advanced image stabilization system, POWER O.I.S. and Face Recognition for DMC-FZ35.

Face Recognition (Photo)

The FZ35 features Face Recognition, a function that "remembers" faces. When a familiar face is recorded several times, the camera will prompt you to register the face. Once completed, if the familiar face appears into your frame again, the camera will display the name you specified for the person and prioritize focus and exposure so that the registered face is bright and in sharp focus. Up to six people's faces can be registered, and up to three can be simultaneously recognized to show their names once registered. Three face images can be registered for each person, to dramatically raise the detection accuracy. And when the angle of view is changed horizontally, the name display also rotates for easier reading.

AF Tracking Function (Photo)

With the new AF Tracking function, the user can "lock" the focus onto a moving subject. The camera then automatically tracks the subject as it moves, keeping it in focus without the user having to hold the shutter button halfway down. This makes it easier to capture the perfect moment clearly and in sharp focus when shooting images of a child, pet, sports or any scene with moving subjects and spur-of-the-moment action.

Face Detection AF and AE (Photo and Movie)

The Face Detection function can find up to 15 faces in the frame and adjusts the focus and exposure to capture them clearly and in sharp focus. Face detection accuracy has been increased in the FZ35 to now provide continuous adjustment of the focus and exposure even if the face is turned sideways to the camera. Combined with AF Tracking, Face Detection helps users capture special moments, including the fleeting expressions on the faces of active children. Plus, with the FZ35, the red-eye effect can be digitally corrected automatically when it occurs due to the use the flash.

Intelligent ISO Control (Photo)

Thanks to Intelligent ISO Control (IIC), the camera can determine whether or not the subject is moving. If it is moving, Intelligent ISO Control changes the ISO sensitivity and shutter speed accordingly. You get clear, beautiful shots with no motion blur even when photographing kids who won't stay still. If the subject is not moving, the ISO sensitivity is lowered to capture beautiful, natural-looking images.

Intelligent Scene Selector (Photo)

When the camera's in iA mode, the Intelligent Scene Selector senses the ambient conditions and automatically selects either Scenery, Portrait, Macro, Night Portrait or Night Scenery mode accordingly. It makes several other advanced image settings too, so you're assured of getting beautiful results every time you shoot, no matter what the scene or subject. With the Intelligent Scene Selector doing all the complicated work for you, you'll find photography easier than ever to enjoy.

Intelligent Exposure (Photo and Movie)

With this feature, photos will no longer be under- or over-exposed. Instead, the FZ35 instantly analyzes the framed image and adjusts the brightness in areas that are too dark because of dim lighting, backlighting or the use of the flash. The camera will automatically adjust the brightness accordingly. Intelligent Exposure optimizes the exposure for each part of an image, preventing blocked shadows and blown highlights and helping ensure that gradation and details are reproduced beautifully. It now features an automatic backlight compensation function that activates whenever the camera detects the subject is in backlight.

Digital Red-eye Correction (Photo)

This feature helps to eliminate the red-eye problem that sometimes results when taking flash shots at the night. Incorporated into the built-in flash, the camera emits a small preliminary flash before the main flash, detects red-eye and will digitally correct it.

Advanced Scene Modes with Detailed Settings

You can select any of the scene modes used most often -- Scenery, Portrait, Sports, Close-up and Night Portrait -- right from the Mode dial. And with each of these modes, you can make more detailed settings to match the shooting conditions and subject. Still Image Scene Modes to Cover A Wide Variety of Shots

• Party Mode: Select this mode when you want to take pictures at a wedding reception, indoor party etc. By using the flash and slowing down the shutter speed, both people and the background can be recorded with a brightness close to real life.
• Candle Light Mode: This mode allows you to take pictures with a candle-lit atmosphere. You can take successful pictures without using the flash.
• Baby1, Baby2 Modes: This mode takes pictures of a baby with a healthy complexion. When the flash is used, the light from it is weaker than usual. You can set the birthdays of two babies (Baby1 and Baby2). The baby's age can then be displayed when playing back pictures.
• Pet Mode: Because pets often won't hold still, this mode switches the camera to Intelligent ISO Control, which prevents motion blur. If you input your pet's date of birth, its age in months (at the time a photo was taken) is displayed when you view photos.
• Sunset Mode: Emphasizing red tones, this mode is designed to capture clear, vivid shots of colorful sunsets.

Color Bracketing Function

A color bracketing function records three types of images -- color, monochromatic and sepia -- at a single press of a button. Using this function, the photographer can capture a color photo and artistic monochrome photo at the same time while pressing the shutter button just once.

Pop-Up Digital Flash

The FZ35 offers a number of flash modes, including Auto, Auto/Red-eye Reduction, Slow Sync./Red-eye Reduction for nighttime portraits, and Forced On/Off. Flash output adjustment is available in 1/3EV steps, ±2EV. The flash is more powerful than before and reaches a distance of 8.5 meters at the wide setting and 5.4 meters at the telephoto setting (ISO AUTO). It also has first curtain and second curtain synchro settings.

Manual Focus, Manual Focus Assist, Movable Manual Focus Assist

Select manual focus with the focus select button on the top of the camera, and use the joystick for super-smooth focusing. The FZ35 also has Manual Focus Assist. The image in the center of the LCD or EVF can be enlarged during manual focus for easier focusing.The entire frame image can also be enlarged. This is helpful for macros and other shots that require extra-precise focusing. Movable MF Assist lets you move the part that is enlarged by the MF Assist function to any area of the frame you want.

Image Leveling

Image Leveling is another function that improves post-shooting convenience. When a recorded image "leans" to the right or left because the camera was held at a slight angle, the Image Leveling function rotates the image to straighten it and crops the unnecessary edges*.

Instant Close-ups with a Single Switch

Regardless of the Mode Dial setting, you can take macro shots instantly by flicking the switch on the side of the lens to the AF Macro setting. This lets you get as close as 0.4-inch (1cm) from your subject (at the maximum wide-angle setting).

40MB Built-In Memory

Take photos even when you don't have an SD/SDHC Memory Card on hand. The built-in memory holds up to 40 MB of image data, which you can later copy to an SD/SDHC Memory Card or PC. You can also copy images from a memory card or PC to the built-in memory, and view them on the LCD anytime you like.

Real-Time Histograms

The DMC-FZ35's histogram feature functions like a digital light meter, providing a graphic representation of the luminance level of the pixels composing an image. By using the histogram, users can exercise more precise exposure control for quality photos.
