Panasonic DMP-BD70VK Blu-Ray Player

Features in Detail | Enlarged Image

The Panasonic DMP-BD70VK Blu-ray Disc Player distinguishes itself as the world's first dual deck VHS / Blu-ray player. The DMPBD70V combines high quality images with enhanced networking functions, including VIERA Cast's improved Internet functionality that provides access to Amazon VOD's huge selection of titles. In order to produce the ultimate picture quality, the DMP-BD70VK employs the PHL Reference Chroma Processor Plus. Developed in collaboration with Panasonic Hollywood Laboratory, this high image processing technology reproduces clear, vivid colors that are faithful to the original film.

Recognizing that audio is important to the overall entertainment experience, Panasonic's 2009 Blu-ray Disc players feature a high definition audio decoder (Dolby® Digital Plus, Dolby® TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio Essential) to take advantage of the exceptionally high quality 7.1 channel surround sound now integrated in Blu-ray Discs. Panasonic Blu-ray players feature 96kHz surround re-master, a function that enhances the sound quality of CDs and other sources, and even improves the quality of the multichannel audio data on Blu-ray Discs and DVDs.

Panasonic DMP-BD70VK Key Features

Hi-Fi VHS Playback With Premium 1080p Up-Conversion
The DMP-BD70V distinguishes itself as the world's first dual deck VHS-Blu-ray player, providing a video product that features multi-format playback allowing the user to play VHS, CD, DVD and 1080p high definition Blu-ray Discs. The BD70V allows for premium 1080p up-conversion for all video formats. Supports SQPB (Super VHS Qusai Playback).
PHL Reference Chroma Processor Plus
Each of these models employs the PHL Reference Chroma Processor Plus. Developed in collaboration with Panasonic Hollywood Laboratory, this high image processing technology reproduces clear, vivid colors that are faithful to the original film. PHL Reference Chroma Processor Plus precisely processes each pixel of the Blu-ray Disc video signal in the vertical direction. It reproduces color data with twice the accuracy of conventional systems to keep colors faithful and sharp.
High Precision 4:4:4
In order to produce the ultimate picture quality, Panasonic's Blu-ray players employ high precision 4:4:4 signal technology, which working in tandem with PHL Reference Chroma Processor Plus processes each pixel of the Blu-ray Disc video signal in the horizontal direction, to compliment vertical direction processing.
P4HD (Pixel Precision Progressive Processing for HD)
P4HD (Pixel Precision Progressive Processing for HD) is another technology that contributes to the superior picture quality of the Blu-ray players. P4HD processes more than 15 billion pixels per second and applies the optimal processing to every pixel. Panasonic's Blu-ray players further utilize 16-level motion detection to categorize the image motion of each pixel into one of 16 levels; diagonal processing to detect diagonals and correct the pixels accordingly; 1080p up-conversion to up-convert content recorded in the 480i/p or 720p format to 1080p. The Blu-ray players also provide 1080/24p output, thereby reproducing cinema images from a Blu-ray Disc and DVD in their original 24p form with no need for conversion. This allows the user to enjoy cinema images in the same format used in cinema with a 1080/24p compatible TV.
Dolby® Digital Plus, Dolby® TrueHD amd DTS™-HD Decode and Bitstream Output
Panasonic 2009 Blu-ray Disc players all feature a high definition audio decoder (Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio Essential) to take advantage of the exceptionally high quality 7.1 channel surround sound now integrated in Blu-ray Discs.
96kHz Surround Re-Master For All Formats
Complimenting the HD audio codecs these Blu-ray players feature 96kHz surround re-master, a function that enhances the sound quality of CDs and other sources, and even improves the quality of the multichannel audio data on Blu-ray Discs and DVDs.

CD sampling is done at 88.2 kHz. MP3 data can be re-mastered only on CD.

VIERA CAST
VIERA CAST technology, introduced in Panasonic's PZ850 2008 VIERA Plasma, is now available in Panasonic's 2009 Blu-ray players. The internet enabled technology lets the user access the Internet without the need of either an external box or a PC and enjoy the entertainment value provided by such targeted sites as Amazon VOD, with an extensive library of streamed titles, YouTube™, Google's Picasa™ Web Album, Bloomberg and a weather channel. VIERA CAST was widely acknowledged last year for its distinctive Internet application, allowing the user to view targeted sites on a large HDTV, rather than a small computer screen. VIERA CAST has a built-in Ethernet interface -- no external box or PC is required. VIERA CAST is accessed via a single button on the Blu-ray Disc player remote control and there is no fee to use the VIERA CAST functionality.
Viera Link™ HDAVI Control
Connect your Panasonic Blu-Ray player to your Viera flat-panel HDTV via an HDMI cable, and the user can operate the player using the TV remote control and following on-screen prompts.

VIERA Link™ is a new name for EZ Sync™. Not all VIERA Link™ features are usable with earlier VIERA Link™ and EZ Sync™ compatible products.

SD Memory Card Playback and USB Terminal
These Panasonic Blu-Ray players are each equipped with an SD Memory Card slot and USB terminal, which makes it easy to view photos from your digital camera. Just slip the SD card into the slot or use the cable to connect the camera to the USB terminal, and you're ready to enjoy a spectacular big-screen slideshow with family and friends.

Progressive Scan
Progressive scanning doubles the scan lines of an interlaced signal by scanning all lines for each pass. The higher-density video signal creates film-like images extraordinarily close to the way they originally appeared in the cinema -- with rich detail, extraordinary depth of field, and precise color reproduction.
3D-NR / Integrated NR Digital Noise Reduction)
During Playback, advanced 3D-DNR circuitry effectively and selectively removes only noise components from the signal. The result is stunningly clear image reproduction.
1080/24p Playback
These Blu-ray players provide 1080/24p output, thereby reproducing cinema images from a Blu-ray Disc and DVD in their original 24p form with no need for conversion. This allows the user to enjoy cinema images in the same format used in cinema with a 1080/24p compatible TV.
Deep Color and x.v.Color™
x.v.Color™ function is effective only when reproducing AVCHD data recorded with x.v.Color technology. The function cannot be used with BD-ROM or DVD-ROM discs. HDMI connection is required.
Picture Mode
Options include Normal, Soft, Fine, Cinema and User. Cinema mode combines brightness control with picture noise canceling to provide better picture quality in certain viewing conditions. It lessens glare, giving you colors that are more cinema-like and picture resolution that is gentler to the eyes. Cinema mode also improves the visibility of details in dark scenes by automatically adjusting picture contrast, and helps to suppress color smearing, as well.

192kHz/24-bit Digital/Analog Converter
High-resolution audio's extreme fidelity comes from its much greater sampling rates and bit depths. In fact, at its 192kHz/24-bit maximum, DVD-Audio can reproduce high frequencies up to 96kHz, nearly five times the audio spectrum, while achieving dynamic range of 144dB. These high-frequency components of the audio signal beyond 20kHz play key roles in communicating delicate musical nuances, hall ambience, and soundstage imaging.
Advanced Virtual Surround Sound (V.S.S.)
When listening to a Dolby- or DTS-encoded disc, allows you to enjoy the wide open effect of virtual surround sound via a stereo speaker system.
2-Channel Analog Audio Out
Dialog Enhancer
Most of the movie dialogue recorded in surround sound formats (either Dolby Digital®, DTS® or Dolby Pro Logic®) is heard through the center channel speaker. At times, dialogue can be overwhelmed by particularly loud sounds emanating from the other speakers in your surround sound system. The dialogue enhancer increases the center channel volume (relative to other channels), making movie dialogue easier to hear and understand.
Dynamic Range Compression
Audio/JPEG Navigation Menu
Enables you to quickly search for JPEG and MP3 files recorded onto CD-R and CD-RW discs via an on-screen menu with online confirmation of file folders. This function also works with CD-R discs that feature multi-session recordings.
Super High Speed Scan
ENERGY STAR® Rated, Auto Power Stand-By
In order to obtain a reduction in power consumption Panasonic 2009 Blu-ray players use Auto Power Stand-By, a function that automatically turns off the player when you return to TV operation using the VIERA Link menu. In addition, the Stand-by Power Save automatically turns off the player's Quick Start function. When VIERA is turned on, Quick Start also turns on. In addition, the development of the UniPhier® single chip LSI makes it possible to pack an entire video signal processing circuit onto a single chip. This helps lower power consumption, reduces the number of parts needed and allows for a more compact design.
HDMI Output
HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is an interface standard for digital transmission of video and audio signals. With HDMI, the signals are not compressed. Transmission is direct and "pure" -- free of the degradation and noise that occur with analog signal transmission. This new interface supports image resolution all the way up to 1080p. HDMI is particularly well suited for images that will be viewed on plasma display panels, LCDs and other equipment that uses all-digital image processing. In terms of sound, HDMI is ideal for DVD-Audio and other high-quality digital formats. It accurately transmits even the most delicate signal components contained in high-quality audio signals. The result is superb sound, whether the source is two-channel or multi-channel. HDMI is simple to use, too, requiring connection of a single cable. With all these advantages, HDMI is the ideal interface for today's age of steadily advancing digital A/V equipment and media.
